Anthony F. Santoro, PhD

Chief Postdoctoral Fellow, HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies

Dr. Anthony Santoro’s research examines the long-lasting effects of childhood adversity and socioeconomic disadvantage on adult physical health and functioning. His research has focused on exploring behaviors and beliefs (e.g., cultural, religious/spiritual) that serve as buffers and exacerbators of poor health outcomes in vulnerable populations (e.g., ethnic minorities, stigmatized groups, individuals with disabilities).

Dr. Santoro is particularly interested in the biological mechanisms (e.g., allostatic load, inflammation) by which sociocultural stressors impacts the development and course of chronic medical conditions (e.g., HIV, cardiovascular illness). He is also interested in international research, cross-cultural measurement development/validation, and technology-assisted research methodology to access hard-to-reach, underserved populations.
