Dr. Michael Vaughn’s research investigates the long-term impact of medical trauma on queer communities. His work examines both how HIV-related trauma influences gay men’s understanding of what it means to be gay and, subsequently, how that impact varies across generations of gay men. Specifically, he is interested in the influence of a group’s collective memory of shared, harmful events (e.g., epidemics, medical maltreatment, systematic oppression, etc.) on health outcomes and identity processes.
