Stephen Sukumaran, MPH, is Deputy Director of the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies. Stephen is an experienced epidemiologist with an extensive background in public health program management and development, working with sexual minority and vulnerable populations.

Prior to joining the HIV Center, Stephen was involved in HIV/AIDS and emerging infectious disease surveillance in Georgia. He supported formative research on the inclusion of transgender populations in national HIV behavioral surveillance instruments, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Public Health and CDC. He also has significant experience supervising intensive HIV case management and care coordination programs assisting persons living with HIV/AIDS in New York City, particularly those accessing care at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the former St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brandeis University. He holds an MPH from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, where he completed concentrations in Infectious Disease as well as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Population Studies. He also completed a Graduate Certificate in Human Rights.
